The Urhof. Your private chalet at the heart of our 250-year-old family farm in Lesachtal Valley, on the border to East Tyrol. Drawing on old family stories and a modern take on Alpine well-being, it is a place that blends history with the here and now, tradition with trends, a natural feel with exquisite design.
Lovingly crafted by hand with deep respect for what was and is, we have converted an authentic barn on the grounds of our farm. Inspired by life in 19th century Lesachtal Valley life and in gratitude for what Erwin’s ancestors placed in our hands, you will spend with us a truly sustainable holiday on so many levels.
The Cube –
a platonic body of energy.
The Ronacher firm of architects from Gailtal developed a concept in which a cube was added to the Urhof layout for use as a living room. Resting supine on the lounger in the large panorama window, you look out over the mountains of the Carnic Alps. As one of five Platonic solids, the Cube symbolises the element earth. In the rustic ambience of the chalet, it is the connecting link to modern living.
Natural building materials
The Urhof was built using sustainable methods and without additional soil sealing. Aside from natural building materials such as brick, local alpine stone and timber, the original old wood and the shingles of the demolished barn are the predominant materials in this unique “farm chalet”.
Value for the region
We work mainly with building firms from the vicinity of Lesachtal Valley to promote the local economy. The barn uses photovoltaics for electricity and a combination of solar energy and bio-heat from wood sourced in our own forests for hot water and heating.
Organic by conviction
We are delighted to supply you with fresh produce that we grow and sometimes even process ourselves. Our farm operates according to organic principles out of conviction. The breakfast basket included in the chalet price is filled to the brim every morning, containing scrumptious delicacies from our farm and the region.
