Winter in Lesachtal Valley
Peace descends across the countryside when winter comes to Lesachtal Valley. The landscape around the Urhof has always transformed into a still life of sparkling snow, exuding the bliss of a genuine winter. You will feel it while skiing during the day, with snowshoes on your feet or in the warm and cosy ambience of the Urhof when evening comes.
Snowshoe tours
Explore the pristine picture book landscape at your own pace or on one of our guided snowshoe tours and winter hikes. Southern sunshine, relaxed indulgences of the Alpe-Adria region and warm hospitality accompany you every step of the way.
Ski tours
Visitors will frequently experience perfect seclusion when they reach a summit in Lesachtal Valley or one of its side valleys. We locals lovingly call our valley a “snow hole”, and a pristine white blanket is rarely lacking.
Skiing
Skiing holidays in Carinthia and East Tyrol are sun-kissed and varied. Guests at the Urhof can choose from a number of ski areas nearby. They include the ski areas in Golzentipp-Obertilliach (20 min. by ski shuttle bus), Kötschach-Mauthen (20 min. by ski shuttle bus), the ski centre in Sillian-Hochpustertal (30 min. by ski shuttle bus) and the ski area in Nassfeld (50 min. by car).
Cross-country skiing
60 kilometres of cross-country trails for classic and skating styles criss-cross Lesachtal Valley in winter. A dedicated cross-country skiing and biathlon centre is located in the neighbouring village of Obertilliach (20 min. by ski shuttle bus).
Tobogganing
Not just one, but several toboggan runs around the Urhof promise thrills and spills in winter. Among them is the floodlit toboggan run in Tuffbad, the 7-kilomere one in Obertilliach and the slopes in Lorenzen and Obergail.
On ice
Carinthia is famous for its love of ice sports – and we are no exception in Lesachtal Valley. There is a beautiful skating rink with curling and a cosy cabin pub in the neighbouring village of Maria Luggau. We recommend an excursion to Weissensee Lake for a stunning and natural experience on ice. Its 7.5 kilometre natural ice rink is a wonderful destination in the depths of winter.
